Yamaha RX-V685 (7.2 Channels)

Yamaha RX-V685 Review

The Yamaha RX-V685 lacks the additional channels that the above AV receivers offer, however, this amp is far more budget-friendly. With its 7.2 channels you can allocate two of your surround speakers for use as Dolby Atmos / DTS:X speakers. Truth be told, with the proper speaker placement a Dolby Atmos or DTS:X soundtrack can sound pretty darn good on the 685.  In addition to its 3D audio prowess, the Yamaha 685 is full of features such as Bluetooth, WiFi, AirPlay, and multi-room audio courtesy of Yamaha’s MusicCast system.

Denon AVR-X1600H (7.2 Channels)

Like the Yamaha RX-V685, the Denon AVR-X1600H only comes equipped with 7.2 channels. Also, like the 685, you’ll be forced to sacrifice two of your surround speakers for use in a Dolby Atmos / DTS:X speaker arrangement, but don’t let that discourage you. Denon is one of the most consistent AV receiver makers today and nearly every one of their amps lives up to the hype. With its 80 watt per channel rating, the 1600H has plenty of headroom to create a tall and wide 3D audio experience. The amp, of course, comes equipped with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. Like many of the receivers on this list, the Denon 1600H is voice command ready due to its compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Siri, and Josh.AI. Like its big brother on the list, the 8500H, the 1600 also features multi-room audio support thanks to Denon’s HEOS audio system.
