Pros

  • Good Tight Bass
  • Relatively Small for a Subwoofer
  • Fantastic Price

Cons

  • May Distort in Larger Rooms

The Sony SACS9 Subwoofer, like most subs is unassuming. Once you take it out of its hefty box, it’s basically just a big black cube. The good thing about this is that you can just shove it into an unseen corner of your listening area and not worry about it. After all, a good subwoofer should be seen and not heard.

Sony SACS9 Subwoofer Features

The SACS9 subwoofer features an active 10-inch dual-layer mica woofer diaphragm. The sub also features motion feedback technology that utilizes detection circuitry to correct variations in the input signal, helping to prevent distortion.

With the SACS9 subwoofer, you can create a robust 5.1.2 home theater setup that’s perfect for Dolby Atmos. Sony recommends that you pair (of course) this sub with their  complete range of CS speakers which include the SSCS3 tower speakers, SSCS8 center channel speaker, SSCS5 bookshelf speakers, and SSCSE Dolby Atmos enabled speakers. However, you can pair this sub with nearly any set of home theater speakers.

Sony SACS9 Subwoofer Review

The subwoofer has a cutoff frequency adjustment, level adjustment, phase switching, and a power save mode that allows for easy customer operation. The bass reflex enclosure with a woof cabinet and cloth grille offers a durable design. The sub has a maximum input power of 115 W.

SACS9 Performance

Of course, the most important thing about any subwoofer is how well does it sound? And based on our experience with the sub, it’s a solid piece of equipment. We fired the SACS9 up and threw several audio tracks at it.

First up was “The Next Episode” by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg. This song is known for its deep bassline and the SACS9 subwoofer does not disappoint. The subwoofer accurately reproduces the bassline, adding an extra level of energy to the song that makes it feel like a party in your living room.

Another track we listened to was “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel. This song is known for its powerful drums and the SACS9 subwoofer reproduces the drums in a way that makes them sound incredibly realistic. The subwoofer’s ability to produce deep, tight bass can really enhance the overall listening experience. The drums sounded energetic, powerful, and realistic.

But the SACS9 subwoofer isn’t just good for music, it’s also a true powerhouse when it comes to movies. The subwoofer’s ability to produce deep, tight bass can really enhance the overall cinematic experience. Whether it’s the sound of a spaceship flying through space or the rumbling of a subway train, the SACS9 subwoofer can bring those sounds to life in a way that will make you feel like you’re right there in the middle of the action. For example, when watched the movie Inception, the SACS9 subwoofer really added to the tension and intensity of the film’s action scenes, with the deep bass adding an extra level of realism to the experience.

The performance of the Sony SACS9 isn’t perfect. This sub does only have a 10” woofer. When we moved this to a large room, the bass had less impact. Also, when maxing out the volume, the subs bass output did start to lose some cohesion.

Conclusion

In short, the Sony SACS9 Subwoofer is a serious piece of equipment for music lovers and  home theater enthusiasts alike. With its advanced features, it can provide a truly immersive audio experience that will enhance your movies, music and gaming. It’s like a secret weapon in your living room, delivering the extra punch needed to bring your audio to the next level. It’s easy to set up, easy to use and it will make your movies and music come alive like never before. Bigger and more expensive subs will give you deeper tighter bass, but considering the price point of this sub, it gives you a lot of bang for your buck. It’s definitely worth consideration for anyone on a budget!
