Yamaha’s Aventage line represents their top-tier group of AV receivers. The Yamaha RX-A780 is one of the latest amps to join the club.

Yamaha’s Aventage line is imbued with heavy-duty design and construction. Yamaha builds these receivers from the ground up with the sole intention of eliminating any type of interference that can distort the receiver’s sound output. The 780, like all Aventage models, has a fifth foot which is attached to the middle of the receiver’s underbelly which acts to dampen vibrations. If that isn’t enough, the front of the amp has heavy aluminum shielding to protect its circuitry from external noise and electronic radiation.

As far as features, the Yamaha RX-A780 has plenty of them. The receiver has substantial 4K video prowess. Its 5 HDMIs support HDCP 2.2, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, and BT.2020. For connectivity, the 780 incorporates both Bluetooth and WiFi. Its Bluetooth is bi-directional which means it can not only receive a Bluetooth signal, but it can also send one. This is ideal if you have a set of wireless Bluetooth headphones you want to use in conjunction with the amp. The Yamaha RX-A780 also supports Zone 2 audio, which means you can set up a pair of stereo speakers in another room while enjoying 5.1 audio in your main listening area.

The 780 is also a multi-room champ thanks to the inclusion of MusicCast which means the receiver can be the cornerstone of a multi-room audio setup. AirPlay 2 compatibility comes part and parcel with the receiver and it’s also compatible with Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant If you throw in a couple of wireless MusicCast speakers like the MusicCast 20s or 50s and you can ditch the wired surround speakers.

For audio decoding, the Yamaha RX-A780 supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. With these two audio formats, audio engineers are able to precisely place audio in 3-dimensional space which makes movies more immersive. The 780’s not just for movies either. Yamaha has never forgotten its musical roots. With that in mind, the Yamaha 780 decodes an impressive staple of audio tracks which include; MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, and DSD.

The Yamaha RX-A780 is on store shelves now eagerly awaiting the next person who wants to upgrade their listening experience.
