You read the headline right. If you have an Apple Watch you can now control your Roku courtesy of the free Roku app. The only requirement is that your phone must be running version 6.1.3 and have the Roku app installed. If these requirements are meant, the Roku app should appear automatically on the Apple Watch. If you have the “Automatic App Install” feature deactivated, you may need to manually install the app yourself.

Once you have the app, your Apple Watch essentially becomes a basic remote for your Roku device. The app allows you to play and pause content and also includes directional, home and OK buttons for menu navigation. Volume control is handled by turning the crown on the Apple Watch.

Voice searches can be carried out by tapping the voice icon in the Roku app. The cool thing about this feature is that you can not only use it to search for content, but you can also use it to launch channels.

The app can also help you find a lost Roku remote. The app can cause the missing remote to make an audible chime to help you locate it. The only caveat is that this feature is only available for the Roku Ultra and certain Roku TV models.

If you have an Apple Watch and a Roku the app may prove itself to be a valuable tool and may be worth checking out.
